Shoowa Textile from the Kingdom of Kuba
At the Detroit Public Library, 5201 Woodward, north of Warren in Midtown Detroit.

The exhibition is open to the public during regular library hours.

This exhibition of tradition Shoowa textile offering a stunning display of over 300 unique designed textiles coving all known styles Kasa Velvet Raffia, Resist Raffia, Resist dyed Raffia, Embroidered Raffia , Open work Raffia and Appliqué Raffia.

Come feel the excitement of this immense collection of Shoowa embroider design cloth from Olayami Dabls and S. Jill Miller Collection, acquired over a period of twenty years. The textiles are on loan to MBAD/ABA African Bead Museum.

The sheer depth and scope of these beautiful designed cut pile textiles posses altogether a different world of excellence from a people who did not have a word for art.

Spectacular colors and patterns that will captivate everyone interested in textile history, African material culture, collectors of textiles, quilters and anyone who appreciates outstanding craftsmanship and originality this exhibit will inspire you. Touch the tapestry and tap into the minds of the Shoowa people of the kingdom of Kuba.
